A sign airline fees may be too high: Cheaper to change your name legally than on ticket
http://www.theguardian.com/money/201...-fee?CMP=fb_gu
Synopsis: From the UK, a man's girlfriend's stepdad makes an airline reservation for him under the name Adam West. Unfortunately, his real name is Adam Armstrong (he'd joked about Adam West being his name on Facebook due to the Batman actor, and stepdad had used FB to get his name). He tries to get airline to change the name on the ticket, but they want $200 (well, 200 pounds, but screw it I'm using the $ sign). So instead, he legally changes his name for free, and pays $100 for a new passport.
I'd consider this to be a sign your fees might be a bit on the high side if it's cheaper to legally change your name than to change your ticket.
(Granted, again this is the UK, and in the US there are all sorts of other legal issues to deal with when changing names, but I found it an amusing story nonetheless).
