Default If Your Dog Was a Person...

...would you like him or her?

This thought has occurred to me on occasion. All of our really special, unique dogs have passed so we're "down" to three dogs now, all JRTs. All were rescues and all had issues of one sort or another.

One was born deaf and has also needed several eye surgeries. He's lost one eye and can't really see out of the other. For all his handicaps he's pretty high-functioning and doesn't require any special attention. But he acts totally stupid most of the time. He's a total PITA just due to his personality. Really, his only redeeming quality is he's extremely protective of my wife...as much as a 16 pound JRT can be, anyway.

The youngest was badly abused (to the point of needing surgery on a leg) before being abandoned at the local shelter. When we first brought him home even just looking at him would cause him to piddle. He was frightened by everything. But, we've had him 4 years now and, while he's still fairly timid, he no longer piddles. He's still really needy and has some annoying habits but he's probably the sweetest dog I've ever seen. Our female terrier is his hero and I really think he'd be lost without her.

Our only female is a really strong-willed alpha dog. But she doesn't really know how to be an alpha dog...it's like she's always out to prove something. She gets along fine with male dogs but won't tolerate another female at all.

So, while I love them all as dogs, I don't think I'd like them as people.

Tough to say. I'm shocked how much my dog loves me. She follows me every where, especially after a run. She'll be panting hard for an hour after the run and won't just go lay down and rest. Instead, she'll make sure to sit or lay some where that she can look right at me.

Exactly. In a dog, it's endearing. But can you imagine having a girlfriend like that? I can't.

I don't know but I really want to say I would.

We have a German Shepard/Border Collie mix (we think) and a Border Collie. Both were rescues so we're not sure. We got the mix as a puppy and she is a great companion and I'm sure the reason our house has not been broken into. The other we got as a nine year old. She needed a couple of surgeries but is a good dog. They are now 12 and 13 and still get around for being so old, although they spend a lot of time sleeping. I guess the reason I would not like them as people is that they are seem needy. As dogs though, they require a comparatively small amount of food, fresh water, exercise, and occasional medical attention. All the other love and attention is a bonus (they get a lot). They give us their everything.

I think the reason we love dogs so much is that we don't have to like them as people.

There are people I love, and there are dogs I love. Dogs make it easy to love them because they are simple and overwhelming in their affection. People...not so much.

Drop some food while you are eating, intentionally or accidentally, and you have made a dog happy. Do the same thing around most people and I am lucky if all I here is; "It's OK, we all are clumsy from time to time."

If I had to be stranded on a desert island with only one person, it would be a dog.

Have had my heeler since he was 8 weeks old and we were constant(24/7) companions for the first 4 yrs. For the last 9 yrs he has been at home protecting wife and family while I worked.

According to my wife, the dog and I have identical personalities and are in general a pain in the ass but good to have around.

He is without a doubt my best friend and I think I would like him but would still have to kick his ass on occasion to remind him who is boss.

If my dog was a human I think she would be a complete slut. She is the most well minded, and kind dog. She does whatever she is told to do and is Loyal as hell, but if someone even looks like they might pet her she will ditch me in a heart beat to go get loved on. I honestly would like her as a human though, all she wants to do is hunt birds and chase rabbits, and ride in the truck.
