Default Another New guy here from Colorado Springs

Hello All, I just bought a new RRA AR15 and was looking around the web trying to learn more about it and came accross this site. I hope to get together with some other Colorado Springs folks who can show me the ropes with an AR. I was in the Air Force for 4 years and in all that time only fired 60 rounds and never had to clean one. Its was embarassing to have to ask a Marine how clean it

    Welcome.

Everyone that shoots had to learn about their firearms at some time.

I am the proud new owner of a NM M14. I had to buy a book in order to know how to properly disassemble, clean and reassemble the rifle.

    Welcome.

    About cleaning a standard AR-15:

Get you a M-16 cleaning kit or a rifle cleaning kit with an old tooth brush.

There is a pin by the selector that you push out and that breaks the rifle down. Pull the charging handle and the bolt will come out with the charging handle. Scrub the inside of the upper receiver, barrel lower and use rag for large areas and q-tips for small areas and oil with CLP or breakfree or hoppes. Clean the outside of the bolt but if you have shot it alot there is a way to break it down to clean it. If you want to know I can post it up but that should wet your whistle.

    Welcome Corey.

I did 20 yrs in the USAF and only got to shoot the M-16 3 times for qualification (once on the FATS system which is nothing more that a glorified video game). My last qual time was @ the Academy range so I could play cop and it was with a converted FN AR-15), and just a few times as an OPFOR member, with blanks. If it weren't for my dad, I probably would have left the AF unsure of which end of the rifle to point at the target.

Lots of great folks here who are always happy to share their wealth of knowledge with anyone who seeks it.
