A .22 pellet gun will generally stay subsonic. A .22 pellet gun with a built-in suppressor and gas piston instead of a spring will be the quietest you can get as far as pellet guns go.

That said, suppressed .22lr with subsonic rounds is still a couple db quieter than a .22 pellet gun of that type.

As DFBrews said, the CCI Quiet .22 is suppressor quiet, and will clear the barrel every time on a 22" barrel. I've dispatched a raccoon in the front yard in the middle of the day on a Saturday without anyone knowing the difference. It is definitely more quite than my neighbor's Gamo Whisper (with the built in suppressor). For what it's worth, the Gamo doesn't sound like a "gun" because the sound you hear is a spring; but it is much louder. That said, I completely understand your reluctance to use a "real" gun near a school. While the .22 Quiet round is, in fact, quiet, I wouldn't feel comfortable dispatching any pests at any angle that doesn't take the round directly into the ground.

If you get something subsonic, bait the pest to a ground position, engage from indoors, and make your shots count; you should be fine.

My friend borrowed my pellet gun, had it for a couple of years. Killed more than 150 of them in littleton. As others have said, get a good shot, shoot from indoors.

He had tried trapping them, but they eventually got smart and wouldn't go in the trap.

Also, consider a heavier hitting gun, .22 caliber pellet, slower, little noise.

Aren't squirrels considered "game animals", with license requirements, seasons, bag limits, etc.? Not sure how that would play into the pest control issue. Just sayin'..... I have no love for the little shits either.....

I built this expressly for the purpose of dispatching rabbits... that is if we had any. Haven't ever seen one in ten years though. Weird. ;-)

Also, for those that suggest trapping, be VERY careful of going this route. I was going to invest in some traps for my issue and found out that you can get in BIG trouble for relocated wild animals into other wild areas. If someone sees you doing this you can be hit with more than a hand slap and I was amazed to hear how serious they take something a simple as relocated some little critters less than a quarter mile from out house. Bottom line is there's really no way to take care of yard vermin like this that isn't strongly discouraged by the .gov under the penalty of punishment so be careful. Just another way for The Man to jam you up.

Looks cool, but how do you pull the trigger?

If you're my neighbor, and maintaining a proper sector of fire, I didn't see nuthin'. Ever. Rabbits, squirrels, neighbors barking ankle-biter, all fair game...

If you trap them you relocate them into a 55 gallon can full of water since I think it's a only a mile your allowed to relocate them.
