    Default Help on a Arisaka

    Gentlemen,

This Type 99 (I think) found its way to me today after the former owner (a WWII vet) passed away...

    What am I looking at?

Mitsubishi Toyo Kogyo, or so my son says. Made in Hiroshima he believes. Too bad it lost the mum.
Hopefully somebody will know if the bipod is authentic or repo. I've been confused with bend/no bend and which was which.
Hope that gets you started in your research, and nice piece of history.

Same info I dug up Robb, thanks!

    Series 35, so manufactured Jan-Feb 45'.

I'm pretty confident it's all original, as the future mother-in-law states it has been in a closet as long as she can remember, and the patina throughout matches.

The only downfall I see is the front sight is missing, but the dust cover, bipod, the AA sights, and bayonet are there.

Anybody have a clue what this thing with the bayonet would be worth? I'm seeing prices all over the board...

It's a "Last ditch" so the quality took a slip in that time period, and yes, not having the mum screws you as far as value.

I know very little about these, so take this with a huge grain of salt, but being made that late in the war I was under the impression that the Last Ditch rifles did not have the aircraft sights and bipods. You may want to do some research on that.

My brothers got one unground from around the same time period. But he's missing the bipod and dust cover. AA sights are there. The bayonet is pretty interesting. I'd still call it a good score.
