Default What's up the the gas vs. diesel prices?

In '07 we bought a new 35' 5th wheel and a new F-250 4X4 diesel to pull it. At that time diesel was significantly lower per gallon than gas.
Of course, almost as soon as I bought the truck the price of diesel shot up to 50 to 60 cents higher than gas.

I recently sold the trailer and traded the F-250 in on a new F-150 4X4. Now I see diesel is selling for 10 cents per gallon less than gas, WTF!

The oil companies are doing it to mess with you, specifically.

They claim it is a supply and demand thing, I think it's purely arbitrary.

Slower economy in the rest of the world. Overproduction causing the savings on processing to show in the pump prices. Slow down in oil field work in the states. They burn a ton of diesel during drilling and production.

Supply and demand. IIRC, diesel and gasoline are both byproducts of the same process so it behooves the oil companies to alter prices to avoid huge stocks in either. There is much greater demand for diesel internationally so the overall demand for diesel versus gasoline has changed versus times past resulting in a changed price ratio. I even remember times when diesel prices exceeded gasoline due to high international demand and a reduction in stocks.

Before I go to gas/diesel price, I was off by $10/barrel on oil. I thought it would go to 69/barrel with given information 6-7mo ago. darn.
Anyways, Summer diesel price tend to go down. Most of diesel demand are during winter. it is opposite for gasoline for various reason. additives for hotter days, demand, etc.

Thanks to lower gas prices, I can afford to drive gas guzzlers now. I was driving Civic hybrid during 2007-2011.

If our EPA wasn't run by a bunch of global climate change ninnies we would have more diesel vehicles in the US. You can get more gallons of fuel from a barrel in diesel vs gas. Plus there is no need to change blends from summer to winter.

Aside from that get what you need for your purpose for towing or work.
