    Default Quick, easy backpack trail.....

Looking for a quick, easy backpack over nighter from Denver area....

Taking my 5 yr old boy. Thinking 2 miles in tops. Lake would be great. Fire is a must.

All my go to spots are up towards the wy boarder. Would like to find something closer.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.!

We use the Crags as our intro to backpacking. Slight uphill grade hiking but good flat tent spots about 1.5-2 miles in. Fire should be no problem as long as you're at least 50 ft from the trail. No lake but there's a good stream not far from the trail or camping spots. From Denver, you'd be coming south toward Cripple Creek (I-25 to CO-24 to CO-67 South) and hang a left (east) near Mueller State Park.
