Default A little help with a potential trade

I'm in the process of trying to trade off my lcr .38 for a lightly built 10/22. This is what's on the table now.

My LCR .38 with 50 rds through it, 2 speed loaders with hollow point, extra box of ball, cheap holster, alien gear holster, leather small of back holster, and I forgot the night sight.

His- 10/22 with 2k rds through it. It has a green mountain Barrel from Midway, Fajen laminate stock, Power Custom titanium firing pin and competition bolt release, Volquartsen hammer and bolt tune up kit. I haven't asked if the original parts are available. He's claiming he has $800 into this, but hasn't given me a trade value yet.

Its been a while while since I've been in the 10/22 game but my son is about a year from starting to shoot so I'm after one. What do you guys think on this trade?

Dumping money into a gun is like throwing custom parts on your car or motorcycle. Sure, you have a lot of money tied up in it. But I wouldn't say that means what you have into it makes it worth that.

I'd start with trying to make an even swap and play it from there.

Or a standard 10/22 will run you about $250 out the door. I'm with Ray...even swap or pass unless you want an expensive 10/22 that your new shooter won't be able to fully appreciate.

Sounds about right for his "investment" However there's things similar out there for less. Next question is what's the value you put on your set up? Outside the revolver and ammo , like the 10/22, IMO everything else is fluff when it comes to a trade.

I had it listed for $400. I was thinking straight across but don't know 10/22's well enough and don't want to insult. This will also be used by me so a stock 10/22 is off the table.

Till you start looking at a Kidd 10/22, they are all pretty much stock IMO.

I would go even up if you want the rifle. Out of the box I think a Marlin 60/795 will shoot better than a 10/22, and for less money. Putting work and some parts into one is expected if you want it to be a decent rifle.

    I'd say even trade.

I've had the LCR listed for months and nobody worth a crap has been interested. This guy came along and has something I could make work for what I'm looking for. It isn't however what I want in a few aspects but I can't really beat him up in price over that. Just trying to figure out what you guys would value that 10/22 at for trade purposes.

$300 to $400 depending on how it shoots. Figure $100 for the laminate stock, and $200 for the stock rifle.

Any chance you can take it out and put some of your favorite bulk .22lr through it? If it won't function on bulk ammo, then it needs more work/money put into it.

Id love to take it out first put time is a precious commodity at the moment. I've only shoot twice in the past year due to new job/location/home/baby and of course back surgery. Running bulk ammo isn't really a concern. I'll probably but a couple $100 into it anyways since I can't leave anything alone and I run mostly CCI.
