Default Anyone here ever forget to renew your license plates?

My wife got pulled over the other day. Our plates had expired and I can't say what happened. Never got the renewal card in the mail, misplaced it, I don't know.
I called in to Adams Co Motor Vehicles but no solid answers. Wife has a court date in Sept.
I'm just bracing for how much this could hurt.
Anyone else ever miss one of those cards in the mail and get stung?
We have insurance, but the registration expired and we never noticed.

I got an expired tag ticket on one of the bikes several years ago in Jeffco, coupled with a no proof ticket(it was sitting on my desk about 4 blocks from where the ticket was issued) mandatory court date as a result. I went to court with a valid registration from the day after the ticket, and a proof of insurance that was valid at the time I was pulled over, and the County attorney dropped the charges. YMMV

I think the mandatory court dates are more designed to catch repeat offenders and people that are knowingly driving without registration for long periods of time. They will probably drop the charges like TFOGGER if you have proof of insurance and new tags in time for the court date.
Same here.. don't remember how much the ticket was or if I paid a late fee or not..

Okay, that makes me feel a tad better. Here's the kicker, tags expired in January. F me... I'm almost positive no tag ever came in the mail and I never noticed the stickers on the plate.
I don't know for a fact if the cop asked for proof of insurance, but either way that was covered. We'll get the temp registration and do the emissions this week and hopefully the fine won't set us back too hard.

I think it's $100 max on the tags.. for the past due.. I'm pretty sure they capped it.

We could sure survive that. I was a little nervous the greedy b*st*rds my throw an extra zero in there. That would leave a mark.
