Default BS TSA post about guns found in baggage at DIA..

So some TSA Agent makes a twitter post today and says this..

"This is one of 2 loaded firearms #TSA found @DENAirport security chkpts today in checked bags. Different passengers."

I say bullshit, Why would a checked bag be going through a TSA checkpoint?

DENVER — A TSA spokesperson for Colorado reported that two loaded fire arms were found inside checked bags at Denver International Airport on Monday.
The spokesperson said the two fire arms were located in two different passengers’ checked bags.
She posted a photo of one of the weapons on twitter.

The names of the passenger’s who were carrying them were not released or if they were permitted to do so.

    Hooray!
What was it a year or so ago? 70 planted weapons and 67 got through undetected.

TSA is a feel good agency.

Whenever you check a bag and declare a firearm you and the airline representative go straight to a TSA checkpoint for the hand off. I'd be willing to bet it was 2 instances of idiots not properly securing and casing their weapons, and then checking them, or just throwing them in their checked baggage thinking that's all they needed to do.

Also I'm about 99% positive all checked baggage is X-ray inspected before going out to the plane, some airports still have the machines out in the check in area and you hand it off to a TSA representative and they put it through the machine before it goes on the belt to baggage handling.

OP: were you were aware that TSA also X-rays or does chemical analysis on a great deal of the checked baggage going through major airports? I can't swear to DEN but I know HNL and several other airports I've gone through have all checked luggage passing through TSA X-ray machines.

There is more TSA than just the personnel scanners and carry on x rays screeners.

There is a very nice video of the in-line system linked to this page:

In DEN, if you bag doesn't go to the room on the east side of Level 6 (behind the Frontier ticket counters) it is assumed that passengers have not declared a weapon. If they find it and it wasn't declared, you may lose the weapon to the Denver Police Department and be fined by the federal government.

I want to load my luggage with springy snakes, next time they open it up for inspection... BOING! wonder how that would go over?
Sometimes people trip and fall down stairs.
Sometimes assholes push people down stairs.
That doesn't mean "stairs are bad" nor does it make someone who pushes someone down the stairs any less of an asshole.

TSA goes into my Pelican tool case 99% of the time I fly with it. They Always leave a nice little note and repack it like shit. I started leaving them all sitting on top for them to see along with a note to PLEASE REPACK IT THE WAY YOU FOUND IT.
