    Default Gunsmithing

I'm considering changing my career and one of the thing I've looked into is gunsmithing. Just curious if anyone has experience using AGI home study course. And if AGI is any good or a waist of my time and money. I've seen them advertised in many gun magazines. And is there really a good future in making gunsmithing my main and possibly only source of income. I'm not looking to be rich just want to live comfortably and not worry about living paycheck to paycheck. I welcome all thoughts

Paging BP, please pick up the white curtousy phone.

Other than getting Armorer certs through specific manufacturers I say take some machining classes and start getting some books and projects. I have no experience with the AIG stuff but I have always been skeptical of it. You really want to get started go to CST and work your ass off. With CST you get what you put into it and if you have questions pm me and I can put you into contact with a member here who is currently a student. You really want to go the distance head down to Trinidad and take that program.

    GL and be safe!

Speaking from no actual experience, I can't imagine being a full time gunsmith is going to provide you with a steady income.

Not a bad thing to learn as a hobby or to make a little supplemental income.

The AGI videos are decent but I doubt you'd learn everything you really need to know. I have a couple of them somewhere on VHS. They were entertaining to watch and gave some good details of disassembly and reassembly but it's the trouble shooting and the machine work that really set the good gunsmiths apart in my opinion. A trained chimp can pretty much disassemble and reassemble something.

What is the difference between a large pizza and a gunsmith?

Colorado has two good in-residence Gunsmithing schools; Trinidad reportedly being the best. From what I've seen, there are a fair number of folks in CO who've attended these schools and most haven't been able to turn it into a full time career where supplemental income isn't required. There's just a lot of competition here in the state among the in-residence folks and you'd be starting at a disadvantage to them by getting your training via a home study course.

I personally know a few smiths but only one will ever get my business - even if he's way up in the North Metro area and I'm down in the Springs. That person is Bert of BPTactical. He's earned the outstanding reputation he has, but worked hard to get there.

Just my two cents on the subject.
