Default How to fire a contractor?

I put a hothub pad in, it took the contractor's concrete guys 2 times to get it somewhat right. Next they built a ledge around my patio to hold pavers that started breaking apart. soon after. The contractor has yet to come look at the work they did on the ledge. All of this should have taken less than a week, but has been drug out the entiire summer, now I am stuck with ledge falling apart, and no patio done. On top of this they left my backyard in a mess, which i have cleaned up. I havent paid the guy anything at this point, but will pay for the pad.Is there any legal issues stopping the rest of the work, and hiring another guy? Do any of you know a good mason/ concrete guy to come correct said work?
    Thanks,
    R

Before paying anything or even contacting the first guy I would get it inspected...if there are problems with the work that was done thus far you should know it before contacting him.

Regarding firing him...you hired him to do a job...that job has not been completed in a timely manner...get someone who wants to do the job.

Read your contract. If you don't have one then no. Most contracts have verbiage about cancellation. You may have to pay for purchased materials, but they would be your property, not the contractors.

WE fired onewho was suppose to be doing repairs after a tornado. Contract in hand and on the phone to our ins co. I threw him off the property. He took a 2 hr lunch, came back with beer cans falling out the truck and stood around smoking for 1/2hr. Said he had to get supplies and might be back later in the day. Told him not to,till those exposed wires he pulled are covered, some way to access the house is fixed etc. He started demo'ing and left more fire and safety hazards than we had after the storm. Took pictures, sent them to ins co and the GC who hired him.

Document everything with pictures and what you remember (if there was no contract) about the agreement.

    Time to call Adam Carolla?

I fired my neurologist a few years back and it felt so good. He was completely in shock when I told him that we was fired. It was awesome to see his face when he realized that I was serious.
