Whatever happened to "We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone"?

I remember seeing these signs all over the place. Where did they go and why did they disappear? I believe if I own a business, I should be able to decide who I do what for, NOT the frickin government.

I really don't want to start an argument about religion or gay rights or what ever. I have no dog in this fight. I can see both sides.
