Red Rocks CCP
Headed to Red Rocks this weekend for the first time! Do they have metal detectors at the entrances? I just want to be prepared so that I can leave certain tools in the vehicle and avoid any kind of embarrassing scene.

They have a "no weapons" policy, but security for any given event is up to the producers of the event. From what I hear, rap and hip hop events usually involve wand metal detectors and pat downs, but the concerts that I go to they seem more concerned about us not having outside alcoholic beverages or glass bottles. YMMV.

It is my understanding that Red Rocks, et al. are owned by the City and County of Denver.
The complications of which jurisdiction (Denver ?) preempted which (JeffCo ?) puzzled me, so a while back I emailed some of the Denver City officials about both laws in effect and police force jurisdiction.
I also talked to some of the JeffCo court employees that I knew.
What I was told by all, is that Red Rocks and the other Denver Mountain Parks are
a) subject to the laws of the City and County of Denver
and
b) at events, such as concerts at Red Rocks, the Denver PD is on patrol.
In the event of a large altercation, they have cooperative agreements with the neighboring city and county PDs
For any arrests, the suspect will be tried in Denver, if necessary, but possibly held/detained in local/county facilities until transport to Denver can be arranged.
Please understand that I, personally, am not claiming to be an expert on this subject, but am merely passing along the info I gathered from what I considered reliable sources (right or wrong).

If you are doing to a concert-type event, read the fine print on your ticket. It may have additional restrictions.
(EX: Similar to, it is OK to CC on CSU/CU campus, but not in the football stadium (games) or auditoriums (concerts), as by purchasing a ticket, one agrees to language on the ticket providing such restrictions)

FYI: I did get this information recently from a friend who works for the city.county of Denver. Since RR was recently added to National Historic Landmarks Program, if it does receive a grant for NPS, they will have to abide by the NPS set of rules. One of them is to ban CC in the parks.

Unless it is private property (and it's not, AFAIK), fine print on a ticket does not trump state law.
As for "NPS rules" I don't know where you're getting that from but it's nonsense. First of all, NPS abides by state law regarding CCW and has since circa 2010, and 2nd the property is either owned by the NPS or it's not, period. If it is owned by NPS, then NPS rules apply (which means state law applies.) If it's not owned by NPS then state law applies.
IOW, state law applies no matter what, and state law is pretty clear on the subject. CCW with a permit is not permitted:
1. On the real property of public elementary through high schools (except that firearms are permitted in vehicles and when participating in recreational hunting or shooting activities on such property)
2. On Federal property (where Federal laws apply anyway)
3. On private property where the property owner doesn't allow it and
4. On public property where there are metal detectors and everybody is searched.

Those are the ONLY places where your CCW permit does not allow you to carry.

metal detector wands and pat downs for everyone at all concerts I have gone to at red rocks.
If you are just walking around when there is no concert there will be nothing stopping you.
