    Default Coolers

I've got a hunting trip coming up soon and need help with a cooler. I wanted to get actual experience with yeti or similar style.

Whatcha got? How many quarts? How much $$$? And where'd you get it from.

    Thanks.

Checked them.out at the Ace on Colfax just west of Quebec. Nice equipment, ridiculous price.

And you didn't stop by and say hi? wtf.

HCWT, I don't have any higher end coolers, never had a really good one, but I've heard about those Yetis. Pricey though.

I took a week long trip to Texas and one bag of ice lasted the entire trip in a yeti. Size wise, get what you can pick up by yourself. The largest is a huge pain for one guy to get into a truck.

$250 for a cooler that won't hold much more than a six pack. No thanks.

Holly cow! Are those things made of real Yeti skin? How can a cooler cost that much? You can buy two Coleman's and an Igloo and still have gas money for ice runs.

I think even the Pelican coolers are cheaper.

I've got one, but I only use it for trips to Lake Powell in the summer. A block of ice only lasts about a day down there in a standard cooler.

I wouldn't spend the money for one unless you plan on camping in prolonged summer heat.

They certainly work well, but a $50 cooler should be just fine for a fall hunt.

I have the Grizzly coolers, a 150 quart and a 500 quart. They are still pricey but a lot less then the Yeti. They have a heavy duty molded in handle and a 2" drain plug so you don't have to wait three hrs to drain them if your ice does ever melt. I put 2 quartered up elk in the big one after a trip to New Mexico, with plenty of room for 70lbs of ice. The big one is stupid big and only gets used on longer hunting trips. I actually use it to store gear in it for the trip and then I have it for meat if we are that lucky. The 150 quart is much more manageable but will still break your back trying to get it in the truck if it's all loaded down with ice and beer.

For the price, I've been pleased with the coleman extreme 5-day coolers. Keep them out of direct sun and ice will last days.

I did the White Rim Trail with one, in Sept, and had ice at the end.

Heard good things about Grizzly. Looks a little more user friendly.
