So are these basically Chinese made knockoffs? Any reports on durability over time vs Yeti? Yeti claims they are made in the US and the Philippines which basically means they are made in the Philippines and boxed p in the US.

I offered the info up because it was a cooler thread. Since I'm not looking for a cooler the research is up to you !

Buy a pelican on eBay brand-new and you'll save some bucks. It's about the only place you can get discounts on the really good coolers. I picked up a brand-new 65 quart pelican for $240 with free shipping.

Mine kept ice for 12 days and was opened daily in Florida heat when the 2004 hurricanes knocked out power. During normal times it lived on my boat and I put one bag of ice in it each week, they are the only uppity cooler I've seen that is worth the money. Icey-Tek's, Yeti, etc. don't seem to keep ice anywhere close to their claims.

For the price of some of these coolers I'd rather just toss a diesel generator and a chest freezer in the bed of a pickup. Might cost a little more, but at least then I'd have a generator and a chest freezer for other stuff.

Colman xtreme has been great at keeping ice and its cheap.

Check out the Pelican Coolers. Yeti quality (or better) and you save a few bucks.

I have the standard fare, 2 Coleman Extremes and a Pelican 65 quart. I have taken several multi-day trips with the Pelican and the Extremes, and the Pelican, for me, was worth the money. I have been able to keep 3/4 full jugs of water frozen for several days in 90 degree plus heat in the Pelican, not so in the Extremes. The latches are very good as is the seal. I have borrowed some "more expensive" ones and I think the Pelican is about the best out there and it does cost less.

The Coleman outlets had some great deals on their version of the "yeti" last year around this time. Like 50% off if I remember correctly.

I couldn't justify it and bought 2 - 150 qt extremes for $200.

They worked just great. I use to work at Coleman when the extreme and stainless steel cooler came to market.
