Default Hey Hoser, I have a question for you.

If the high-rez of this picture makes its way around in your Fire fighting circles can you post it.

    I saw it online here...

That would be far too simple plus I hadn't thought to do it. Typically such pictures in articles click into a high-res I was sad when it didn't.

This was the most complete image I could find using Google Images; http://fireaviation.com/wp-content/u...al-Tramway.jpg

    Interesting that it's a 2013 pic.

I ran across this image as well and these guys were really shaking the trees (image was too large to insert); http://www.peterson.af.mil/shared/me...-DT527-484.jpg

ETA: Looks like the original can be downloaded from here; http://www.146aw.ang.af.mil/photos/m...ery.asp?page=8

    The dimensions are 2848 x 4288 @ 240dpi

I don't care how cool you think your job is... these guys are certifiably INSANE! As always, thanks for what you do Hoser.

I thought I was safe from the fires, but we've had a C-130 and some smaller planes with dirty red bellies flying in and out of my local airport (Santa Maria) to fight all the fires around here. One just a few miles up the road just burned 2500 acres.

Thanks USMC. That is a great pic of MAFFS 6 from the 2013 fires.

We have been out here in Sacramento working the fires since the beginning of August. The fires are really bad this year. Worse, it isn't windy enough to blow the smoke out of the valleys so sometimes we end up sitting under the wing all day waiting for a launch.

I was on that plane. It looks a lot more hairy then it really was. It was taken during our annual recertification training with the Forest Service near the old Hayman Burn.

Only one of the four squadrons that do MAFFS have Js. While the Js have more power, they have a lot less drag so they are harder to get *and* keep slow. Worse yet, two less sets of eyeballs in the cockpit does not help.

Waldo Canyon. MAFFS 2, the first plane on both Waldo and Black Forest.

    I miss building them.
