I must say though, my experience is a lot of officers are not vigilant for themselves. Examples:

Casually walking down the street back to the office or car. Coat, Lunch box, Coffee in hand, by the time they could react, they are probably done.
Hanging out at their "post" for the day, chatting with the other officer, assuming nobody is going to come in that office building and start shooting.

I just think with the way things are, they would be a bit more attentive to their situation and surroundings.

I do what I can when in the areas to be a third set of eyes, minor things have happened and I believe I'm as much involved as the others, if not more. (non leo employees)

This killing of police officers is an outrage. I'm left dizzy with the number of reports over the past few weeks of officers being targeted. I am concerned- how much will this escalate?

It's like my ears are growing points and my eyes aren't open wide enough. I'm trying to work on situational awareness without being paranoid. It's an awfully fine line. I find myself scanning each cop car I pass, hoping there won't be an event.

Not to take away from this tragedy, but I had no idea that law enforcement could get a search warrant for a whole cell tower.

I have actually never heard of that and it would be news to me as well. Maybe that's why they need federal help for something like that. But I really am not sure

The problem with the criminal element declaring war on the police they are likely to get one. The problem with war in the streets, the collateral damage of any large scale conflict is extreme, the real problem one side cares very much about that aspect and the other does not.

I sincerely hope this de-escalates and soon.

it's along story , other than 1 of the killers had been caught and the "ring leaders" family member rolled over on him, to avoid being included as an accomplice . They wanted this guy sooner than later.
