Default Looking for a used work truck..

I install audio video and automation systems and have worked out of my Jeep Wrangler for the past 10 years. I'm looking to move up and get an official work truck with a commercial style topper that I can put some nice graphics/business info on. Not sure i can spring for something brand new so I'm looking at small to mid size trucks. Would love a Tacoma but is it worth it to pay $12k for something with 180k miles on it? Next down the line would be a Ford Ranger or Chevy Colorado/GMC Canyon. I believe Rangers have been reliable over the years and can find them for considerably less than the Toyotas. Anyone have input on the Chevy's? The old Astrovans that used to be so prevalent in our industry seemed to run forever. Any other trucks I'm missing? Need 4x4 for sure.

Also, who has the best deals in town for your standard commercial style toppers?

Default Looking for a used work truck..

I recently bought a 2007 Chevy express 3500 with the duramax motor. It was $14k with 140k miles, had ladder racks and all the other bins inside already. I get 16 mpg no matter what I'm doing, city, highways or pulling a trailer.

A Taco will run an easy 250K + depending on how well it was maintained. Most other vehicles would do the same if taken care of. What one needs to consider is resale. You decide at 225K business is doing good enough to buy a 1-2 yr old vehicle. It's what your vehicle would get selling it. The Colorado / Canyon will get no where near a taco with the same mileage.

Truth in this post. I recently traded my 02 taco in, and the dealership gave me $100 less than I paid for it 2 years and 50k miles ago.

I have not had any problems (mine is a 2009), I believe the 2005 had the most problems.

I don't. I'll never forget about the Mitsubishi Alamo though.
