Grandparent scam

My grandmother got hit by this scam about 5 years ago. Pretty much identical situation as described in the OP. I only found out a month later after my grandma found out I was closing on a house from my mom. She called curious as to why I had money for a house but not to bail myself out of a Canadian jail cell.

If I ever needed to make some quick bucks I'd scam old people or women. Seen plenty of tv shows and it doesn't look too difficult.

Equally frustrating is no one locally or federally has the ability or directive to do anything. Where is the Equilizer when you need him.
