It may not be as complicated as you think.
It sounds as though you shouldn't even breathe around a gun store until you have a permanent address. Those gun store owners seem to be high-strung.
If the CCW instructors have such discretion, I would do my very best to treat them with humble respect (earned or otherwise) and be ready for a quiz to beat all quizzes (all the while answering/demonstrating politely.) It may be that you have to suck up 18 hours more of preparation, but if the CCW instruction determines you're okay and not a know-it-all from the Wild Wild West, they may knock of a few of those hourly requirements after they discover your depth of understanding on the use of firearms.

Yes, I will be VERY humble, and not appear to be a "know it all" since I have never claimed to be an expert at anything. And I certainly won't be flaunting my knowledge of firearms, safety etc. My first shot (with a firearm) was on the very same day that President FDR passed away (in 1945) - and I was only 8 1/2 years old on that particular day and I have done a lot of shooting since then so hopefully the CCW schooling will merely be a refresher course for this old fart.

I can assure you, I would MUCH rather have stayed in CO but to keep peace in the family, I collected my 55 year accumulation of "stuff" and moved to the unfriendly (gun unfriendly that is) enemy territory of ILLINOIS. This is where I will spend my final days unless I happen to croak while making a visit back in Trinidad. ;-))
