It was a comment on a forum. I am trying to stay away from comment sections on forums, due to the ever increasing rapidity of snark, but occasionally succumb. This one was worth it!
When they talk about "the greatest generation", apparently this is exactly what they were talking about. My parents used to talk about everything the people of America did without, to support the war effort. (Dad was Army Air Corps, Mom was pushing Women Marine boots through Camp Lejune). Now I get it.
My trophy wife and I were at at an air museum in New Mexico a few years ago. There were numerous exhibits of newspapers from the WWII years, it was amazing the difference between the support for the effort then, and what we see from the MSM these days. My wife said "OMG, can you believe it was like this?" I just said, "yeah, that's how I was brought up. It's supposed to be like that".
My younger brother, older brother, Mom, Dad and myself are vets. In my current circle of friends and acquaintances, I know of no one in that situation now.
We are in BIG trouble, my friend. God help us.

Edited to add: I imagine there are numerous people on this forum that fall into the "vet heavy" family. Just guessing...

Pops was a draftee and served in Germany 59-61 where I was born, I was Army 1980-88 and we had my oldest son there in 1982. Middle brother was a Marine but discharged on a medical, shortly after basic as I recall. Fell (he claims) 20' off a ship onto a mike boat and broke his back. Youngest brother went ANG and washed out in AIT. Not sure that one counts. :-)
