    Default RV Rental Recommendation?

My wife and I would like to take the kids on a long vacation next summer, up to 2 weeks. Destination unknown at this point but we are thinking of renting an RV.

There will be 2 adults, 2 kids. A long trip like that would just be better in an RV with "facilities" than tenting it the whole time, and a lot easier for daddy.

Anyone rent an RV and have and good/bad experiences with the different outfits out there?

We looked around, found you need to have already made reservations by January, the latest. Cost wise it was running $2800 (off season) with that number running $3500 + in . That was for a 24 - 26' advertised as sleeps 4. Realistically 2 adults , 2 small kids.
For your requirements, one that sleeps 6 would be my recommendation. Anything smaller, you're looking at possible divorce by end of trip. Consider they get 4 - 8 mpg (tops) that's another $2k fuel wise. When it was all done, a 3 week trip off season ( Dec - March) fuel incl it was going to cost approximately $4500. That was not including food, waste dump, camping site fees, etc. We ended up renting a minivan, stay at hotels and friends. 3 week trip $3200.

Call the few places listed in the metro area for better idea of pricing. We were given better pricing for month long than weekly rates. That didn't include up front damage and cleaning deposit. You have to pick up at least 1 - 2days earlier to pack / load everything, then add another half day disagreeing how to make everything fit
ALL rental places have a No Pet policy. Another way to go would be one of the private owners route. Their rigs sit in storage most of the year and look to rent, at a better price, then rental places. A guy I spoke with up in NoCo could have saved us $1500, renting his. The down side, no emergency roadside, towing assistance.

Let me ask a friend that rented often between rigs and get back to the thread...

Buy a used one now in the off season and sell it when you get back. You might make money on the deal.

We rented one from these folks in 09 for a weeklong Thanksgiving holiday trip to Georgia. If I remember right is was a 26 foot Coachmen, and the rental was right at $3k for 8 days. Ford V10 would get about 6-7 mpg at 65 once we got out of the wind across Kansas. The one issue I ran into was that my credit card companies (2 of them) shut down my cards after a couple of $200 gas stops in different states in the course of several hours, as we were traveling all night (one driving, one sleeping). Be aware that if the main bed is behind the rear axle, sleeping in it on the road is damn near impossible due to the "catapult" factor over bumps, but the bunk over the cab worked quite well.

My guy reported back, "Meh" on http://www.adventurecamper.com/contact/denver/

He said they were nice enough, but the last camper they got had "soft tanks" and they hadn't drained the black all the way and he got a stinker.
