    Default M&P 45 Question

I have an M&P 45 midsize. I ave a question on how the slide lock operates.
when mag is emptied, slides holds open. when I put new mag in, I have to pull slide back to get it to go into battery. I can not just actuate the slide release.
Is this normal for M&P's or not? Can it be "smithed" to work as a 1911 does?
    Thanks
    Roger

Doesn't sound normal, m&p pistols are actually known to release the slide when you put a loaded mag in firmly. The releases on mine all operate as expected and easily.

When M&Ps first came out, people complained about how easy it was to release the slide by ramming the mag. On a later release they changed the slide stop and it was much more stiff. I have an early M&P that I had to send in, and they ended up sending it back with a brand new slide. When it came back it was so stiff you couldn't reasonably release the slide with your thumb. I was disappointed because I always ram the mags in when reloading. Anyway, after a while it loosened right up. I just tried it and was able to release the slide with my thumb just fine on my 40c.

tl;dr if it's a new gun, break it in a little.

    Thanks guys.
Gun has about 600 rounds thru it now. If it is still not working as I think it should then I will be seeking a smith to fix.

I agree- I love how my M&P40c will release the slide when I ram a mag in hard (as I normally would)
my M&P45 full size doesn't do the same... I'm sure it could be tweaked, and I also hate the trigger on my M&P45... my M&P40c's trigger is awesome right out of the box.. but the M&P45 trigger is hard, gritty and leads to accuracy issues...

bottom line, my M&P45 needs some tweaking, and isn't my go-to pistol.. my M&P40c is my EDC, and I love it- and my performance at the range shows why I love it (or is it the other way around?)
when doing drills that involve mag changes, I love how a hard mag change will drop the slide... but I think I had 1 malfunction due to a "soft" slide drop... it was easily cleared, but the 1st round didn't got fully into battery.

I bought one of those M&P40 police trade ins for ~$300 and it was the old style sear block that needed to be updated to run the apex kits. I modified the sear to look more like the apex/newer S&W part and the trigger is nice, almost as nice as my slicked up core (which comes with the apex part).
