I have nothing serious to say here. I just thought I should give you all the opportunity to join me in laughing:
GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Greensboro police are offering community members a chance to turn in their weapons and take a pledge of nonviolence on Saturday.
Police will be at Destiny Christian Center at 2401 Randleman Road in Greensboro from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. urging folks to commit to safety within their communities. Officers say they have a goal for at least 1,000 people from our area to take the nonviolence pledge. Gun owners will also have the opportunity to turn in unwanted firearms at this event.
Police employees will be accepting handguns, rifles, shotguns, and ammunition.
GPD says this event was created, in part, because of an increase in gun violence. This year compared to last, gun violence has increased by 68 percent.
Greensboro Police also say the event supports the philosophy of Neighborhood Oriented Policing in which law enforcement and community members work together to solve problems.
The first 1,000 people to pledge will receive a small gift. Signed pledges will be displayed at Police Headquarters. After the event, the Pledge of Non-violence will be available for download at www.gsopd.org.![]()
