Great tires for getting a lot of miles out of them. I wouldn't say they are the best things for the snow. I've been through about five sets of them over the last ten or twelve years.

Remember the news alerts are for the CA, MX and Syrian migrants that have never driven in snow.

    Default November 2015 blizzard thread

Wife was a sweetheart and had brand new Duratracs installed on my Xterra while I'm away for training, so I'm ready for whatever mother nature throws my way. The way in which the tire shop treated her on the other hand SMH (shaking my head, I learned that on here).

This, slow going on hard pack or ice with chains.

    You just need chains!

Personally, I've only ever had to chain up with the big 40"+ storms to bust through the deep stuff when I had to shuttle folks (wife is a Nurse) or get the kids back from a stayover once. I keep them in the truck in winter just in case. Almost had to bust them out Elk hunting two years ago when a fellow hunter got seriously stuck, but we got him/us out without them.

Having decent tires/4x4 and throwing some sand bags in the back of a pickup or whatever and leaving them there all season sounds a lot easier.
Chains are nice to have already mounted on a vehicle that is purpose driven.

Chains got my sister-in-law over Berthoud Pass in a blizzard on tires so bald you wouldn't trust them in rain.

They're a great all around tire. I've never needed chains with those on the Tahoe. Granted, I'm not searching out the deep stuff, just getting around on the roads. I noticed the improved snow handling compared to the prior generation.
