Default Anyone wanna foster a sweet Pit Bull?

My wife's partner at work ("partner" as in paramedic, not domestic) picked up a stray female Pit that was running loose. No tags or microchip. She was wearing a harness, had trimmed nails, super friendly and went belly-up right away. She appears to be young, but has been bred. Clearly she had a home and loves people, but her family couldn't be found. She ended up in the pound, and needs a home. Unfortunately, the pound that she's in won't adopt out a pitbull, but will release her to a rescue.

My wife found out about this pup and is trying to get her out of the pound. We are already over the legal tail-limit for Edgewater, and our own female pit wouldn't do well with another. We are trying to find someone to foster her, so that we can get her released to a rescue (probably either Outpaws or Two Blondes All Breed Rescue - they need a foster lined up before they can spring her). We'll do the legwork to help get it arranged. Full disclosure: The pound said that she "may" have signs of some dog aggression.

I will pay any fees required by the pound or the rescue. I will pay for her food and basic vet bills during the foster period. We just want to keep her safe until her family is found, or help her find a new home.

PM if you are able to help this sweet pup, either as a foster, or forever home.

    Aw, she's adorable!

I'll ask around, but most of my network is away on holiday leave. I do have a friend in Aurora that not only fosters (but mostly little dogs- chihuahuas and such) but she may know others that can foster a larger pup. I'll ask!

I may be mistaken, but I think Aurora still has a Pit Bull ban.

CRAP! I didn't think about that.

I'll see if she knows o anyone outside of Aurora that fosters.

Hopefully some one will take her in and give her a good home. We got our pit from the pound, every one passed her by because she was a pit. She has turned out to be the best dog you could ask for.

Is she intact or fixed? I would take her (fighting the wife over it of course), but I have two intact males (GSD and Rottie) and don't want the fights over a female esp. if she goes into heat.

If she's showing signs of aggression, it sounds like she needs a no fur kid, no animal, possibly no small child household. Till that can get sorted out.

I can't take her sadly, as much as I would love another playmate for my pit. It's the problem I've had adopting/fostering. Either they need no other dogs or no cats.

Has the pound tested her yet around other dogs/cats/kids? Or is it just a 'guess'. Pounds make dogs do weird things.

I don't know if she's fixed, but she will be if fostered (my expense). Pits & Rotties make great yardmates. Maybe we could arrange an intro to see how they interact?

My thoughts exactly. I do not believe she's been tested. I think it was just grumbling at all the craziness inside the pound.

For those considering a foster, I found this as a reference for areas in Colorado that currently have bans on pits. I'd hate for someone to agree to foster her and then have her confiscated and destroyed because of her breed - I don't think they'd go for the "she's a Syrian refugee" excuse.

Looks like Aurora, Castle Rock, Commerce City, Denver, Fort Lupton, Lone Tree, Louisville, and Northglenn all have bans.

Okay, here's what my friend had to say (in the event that no one can foster her):

"Word on the street is that a place called DMK rehoming takes pitties. They are based out of Aurora, though, so they have to find fosters in the few areas that allow them, and finding fosters is sometimes hard because they are tough to find homes for, and it usually takes at least twice as long to rehome them as other pups. Also, check out Outpaws, Pawsco, and Coloradogs. South Platte Humane takes pitts."
