I don't know about Lt. Joe Kenda's experience, but I do know about Steve Rambam's experience for his show "Nowhere to Hide." He was our keynote speaker at our conference in October, and he spoke about how he had to fight tooth and nail to keep producers and directors from "amping up" guests, stories, and even himself. He has a contract that states that he has creative control, and gives the final approval for his shows. The hivemind collective of directors, cameramen, and assorted hoi polloi all set out to make things seem bigger, more emotional, and seek to make things more "reality" than actual reality. Steve spoke about insulating his clients immediately, because the director would have irreparably damaged the relationships that Steve had cultivated, all in the name of ratings.
