Default Had a "see something, say something" situation at work tonight

As many of you know I work in a casino. I got a call on the radio tonight, "Two females are in an altercation at <this location>". I think, here we go......Saturday night.

It turns out that a woman in the restroom is talking on her cell phone in a foreign language. Another woman walks in, hears her, and then confronts her. She even admits to saying things like, "You're in America....speak our language", "We've been told to report suspicious behavior", "I feel threatened", etc.

The other woman gets offended and they both start arguing vigorously. Both claim some physical contact in the restroom, but no cameras in there so no way to verify that. Both demand that the police be called because the one woman feels like the other is a threat, and the other wants to file a harassment charge.

Long story short, the woman on the phone was speaking in Spanish. AYFKM? After much discussion with the police, both parties calm the hell down and leave without any citations.

I have to think that situations like these are popping up all over the place, though I think that I can tell the difference between Spanish and Farsi for crying out loud. I think the accuser here was over the top and out of line.

A guy at work told me about reporting a Middle Eastern guy at DIA for writing down intermittent notes in a handbook at the gate for about 15 minutes straight. That is a legitimate cause for concern, in my opinion.

A woman speaking Spanish on the phone in a bathroom...that's not exactly suspicious behavior in my opinion.

The rule of thumb is that regardless of an assumed language barrier, ne'erdowells tend to speak quietly and among themselves when they're up to something. This is a country of immigrants and mutli-lingual people, so I don't think terrorists are going to risk having their masterstroke unraveled by blindly assuming that no one will be able to understand them if they speak at full volume in public.

    Really?

Writting in a notebook while being middle eastern is a cause for concern now?

What a jumpy bunch we have become.

I believe Islam is evil and am not afraid to say it. But some dude, who may or may note be Muslim, writing in a notebook at the airport, is not cause for concern. We're are rapidly turning into a country where it's encouraged to turn in our neighbors to the "authorities" for anything and everything...that is the opposite of what America is supposed to be.

Yep. Anything slightly suspicious will be reported to authorities. Makes me wonder how many of my neighbors considered calling the FBI when I walked into my condo yesterday with my new rifle (in the box), a rifle bag, and cases of ammo?

I don't know spanish or farsi but I can tell the difference. People are on edge and rightly so, but foolish people on edge is a problem in itself.

Of all the people who have ever harmed me, it is the white people I fear the most. Especially the white government people!

Sounds like an alcohol induced "When assholes collide" moment.

This is what I'm thinking. That lady would probably have an aneurysm if she ever went for a walk along Federal or Pecos north of I-70.

This is my thought. I mean, a majority of calls to police involve alcohol in some way.
I don't make the rules. I just think them up and write them down.
