United Airlines pulling Dubai service, gov contract to Jetblue/Emirates

between the Obama Administration, an Jetblue working to codeshare with Emirates, this completely undermines the US carriers since this contract is for governement employees traveling to DXB. So our tax dollars now fully fund this foreign airline. All while the tickets are booked through New Yorks "hometown airline"...I'm sorry, have you fucking forgot 9/11....and now you are code sharing with a Middle East airline?

JetBlue on Wednesday said the GSA awards contracts that deliver the best value to the U.S. taxpayer. The discount carrier said it is "honored" to have this traffic with Emirates, its code-share partner. +1. Emirates is a state subsidized airline and will soon put most of the larges western "legacy" airlines out of business.... Air france and british airways for example may not exist in 5 years from now, and United is seriously considering stopping most of its traffic to the middle east / africa.

They should have kept their United contract. Not subsidize an already subsidized carrier. it doesn't matter to Emirates if they are full or empty, their government subsidizes them. Do you want your government subsidizing every flight american carriers operate or let them compete freely?
do you want your tax dollars and your government flying on American air carriers or do you want that money to fund Middle East carriers?

not sure what business you are in, but if you had a competitor that just blindly threw money at jobs directly competing with you and didn't have to actually worry about making a profit, you would be a bit concerned about it. You eventually wouldn't be able to compete because the market would be completely unfair.

I guess you missed the part where United is the last US airline that flies there at the moment and they are stopping ALL FLIGHTS THERE in January. So again I ask you who should they have picked considering there are absolutely ZERO US carriers flying that route in about a month's time.

They did this because the routes are unprofitable. The contract with Jetblue is purely codedhare. Jetblue doesn't even own an airplane that could make it that far yet they are contracted out with the government to fly the route? Give me a break....
the gov could have renewed their contract with United and kept the route profitable enough to let unite continue flying there. Instead they went with "Jetblue" who codeshares so all flights will be on Emirates metal and that money goes to a bunch of muzzies.

Mmmm ... I was going to align with the simplest explanation being United canceling the route due to unprofitability, forcing the USG to award the contract to JetBlue but as I read the story, United cancelled the route AFTER the USG awarded the contract to JetBlue. I can certainly understand why United cancelled the route once they lost the USG contract but the GAO awarding the contract to Jet Blue for execution via their codeshare partner smells.
