Skimmers found in some Safeway stores, credit card fraud

I didn't see this posted, I seen it trending on Facebook and just clicked one link so I didn't get the whole story. But they say they traced some credit card fraud back to some Safeway stores where they found skimmers installed on the POS terminals. After dealing with problems twice now I try to only use cash, but sometimes I purposely use the credit cards or debit cards for stuff.

Always check accounts online! Put an alert on the account that emails you when a charge takes place. Check email everyday...

Nice, one out of how many do that? Which leads to the question. Do you bank on line using your phone?

It takes 2 minutes to spend $5K, easy. Not to mention most LE depts don't bother with CC fraud & theft unless the CC company wants to press charges. Which i have seen or read, it averages ZERO .

This was a concern with the ATMs in Mexico, they had managed to get some unscrupulous employees who put Bluetooth skimmers internally in the ATM's. By accessing the Bluetooth they could download all of the account and PIN info.
We were advised to do a scan of available Bluetooth devices prior to using the ATM.

I get an email for every withdrawal. It may not stop a fraudulent withdrawal, but it can alert me to shut down my account immediately if I see something funny. Lets me know when the wife is shopping too.

And use credit, not debit. More protection that way, or so I've read/heard.

I just opened a second account at a different bank and got a debit card just for pay at the pump. I just put enough money in once a month for two to three tanks of gas a week. That's all I use the card for. I use cash for all other walk in transactions.

I'm sure we are only about ten years away for a cashless society so Obama can track every dollar we have.
