Looked at the penalties and it's no less than $100 fine and no LESS than 10 days in jail. Ok, so I dump the AR and use my 300AAC pistol. Thoughts? Appreciate any input...
No bearing on what you carry, own or transport in your vehicle. You are not a resident of denver city/county. A pistol is a pistol, outside the cosmetic differences, it's still a pistol.

Item #2 NO I DO NOT CONSENT OR DO YOU HAVE PERMISSION TO SEARCH MY VEHICLE.

You / anyone drive a vehicle that looks presentable on the inside. Not loaded with empty beer cans, overfull ash tray. One that smells of last nights bong fest. The chances of being asked for a vehicle search are very slim to none. That also goes to how you look, and act while interacting with the LE.

Last item / question. What the hell difference is there in your mind between the 300 pistol and AR? You can have the AR as a pistol, both are the same outside of barrel. Why not have what you feel would be the best tool for the job.

I always thought a Tokarev chambered pistol with an RDS, and hot loaded ammo would be an ideal car gun. Packs like a pistol, 1800fps, zero at 100yard, within +/-3in to 100, low 14in at 200. And its a piece of ruski tech so it's abuse proof by design.

Just need the $ and time.

Check out the Du-Ha underseat storage bin for under the rear seat of most modern pickups. Designed to be a tool storage, catch-all, multiple gun case, or any combination of the above you want/need.

    I want one! http://www.du-ha.com

But for a truck rifle, the options are wide open. For long-term or permanent duty, I believe I'd use a cheaper one like a Mosin Nagant in good shape so I wouldn't have to stress over rust/damage/theft, yet still have full-size firepower at hand. An AR would be nice, but I'd worry about it. I've been known to keep an M1 carbine and extra mags in my backseat. With the Du-Ha bin, you could keep quite a selection in there. And you can padlock the seat in a down position to discourage thieves/curious kids.

I have a Du-Ha. Really like it and have had one in my 2003 since I bought it.

Yeah, the scenario is a shit sandwich. If all your other tools have failed (Situation Awareness, Evade, Avoid, Run the fuckers over) and you are in that situation quick access to any firearm is mandatory.

In my vehicle I can access and fire my Glock 22 in about 7 seconds. I can access and fire my rifle in about 30 seconds, with a Magpul 40 rounder.

With the Glock is a Platatac SICC belt with two extra pistol mags and two extra rifle mags. (I love this belt, it now has the HSGI padded liner on it)
With the Rifle is a chest rig (Mayflower) with 4 magazines, 2 pistol magazines, Radio, Flashlight, Multitool, IFAK, and Smoke

This gives me 220 rounds of rifle, 75 rounds of .40, medical, communications, and concealment in a lightweight package that I can quickly put into service.

All of this is accessible without leaving my vehicle. Now once I have it, if I am not already out of my vehicle, I will be dismounting and moving.

As far as security, none of this is actually locked. The rifle is hidden pretty well and a smash and grab will not find it. The pistol on the other hand could be found in a break-in pretty quick. I would like to increase my security and am willing accept a slight decrease in speed for that, I just have not found a good solution to doing that. The Du-Ha is very nice and I am really leaning towards that, but it may put my chest rig in a separate location depending on space in the Du-Ha. Rondog or MarkCO, or anyone with one, do you think you can you fit a chest rig with a rifle in the Du-Ha?

    Good discussion

Most certainly could fit a chest rig and a rifle in the DuHa.

Just checked out the Du-Ha for my truck. Don't like it much. Nothing wrong with the product itself, just the way my back seat is laid out with the existing under seat storage I don't like the way the Du-Ha fits.

My truck is a 2000 Silverado Extended Cab, and the Du-Ha for my truck is a little smallish than the ones for the crew cabs. Still want one.

I think a 10.5 Ar is your best option. I have a Duha in my truck and getting 2 long guns under my seat would be a struggle, so I doubt I'll ever keep firearms in it.

Not or a huge fan of this Yeager but here is a YouTube video you should watch

A rifle locked in a box in your trunk is worthless.. Not sure how else to do it though and still be somewhat responsible. Would have to have a box inside the cab of some sort and then for it to be worthwhile you would have to take it out and have it accessible anytime you re in the car.
