Default OMG hte Irony ... The Iron Pipe of Irony

Anti-gun Mayor beat over the head with pipe.

WEST ALLIS - Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett is in stable condition at the hospital after a suspect beat him in the head with a metal pipe in West Allis.
The brutal attack happened at 10:45 p.m. as the mayor was walking back to his car after attending the State Fair with his sister.
Police say the mayor was in the 8700 block of W. Orchard Street when he heard a woman cry for help.
She was in a domestic dispute, being attacked by a man.

According to authorities, that's when Barrett pulled out his cell phone to call police. The suspect run at Barrett with a pipe and beat him repeatedly in the head. The suspect was able to get away, but was arrested about 12 hours later according to his family.

The mayor was taken to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa with head and hand injuries. He was alert and talking. He's listed in stable condition.
Sources tell reporter Charles Benson that Barrett will have surgery today on his right hand to repair broken bones. There does not appear to be any long-term damage. Barrett could be released from the hospital by Tuesday.

The Milwaukee Police Department assisted West Allis police in finding the 20-year-old suspect. Authorities said he has a criminal record.
The suspect's brother said the incident started as a child custody fight with suspect's ex-girlfriend. She lives in the 8700 block of Orchard and has custody of their 14-month-old daughter. The fight escalated when the girlfriend's mother got involved. She was screaming for someone to call police when the mayor arrived on the scene. The mayor was the only person injured in the incident.

Neighbor Kim Zaja was shock when she found out it was the mayor who was attacked. "We seen one guy down on the sidewalk in a pool of blood. And then we told police we think that the other guy jumped over the fence and headed that way. It was a domestic thing," Zaja said.

I'm glad to see that his cell phone and impending phone call of doom to the police thwarted the attack.

This guy is being hailed as a hero by the media for his actions here an there is already talk of this simple act guaranteeing him a re-election next time around.

I agree that his stepping in to assist the woman was a very decent and appropriate thing to do, but... If it weren't for folks like him with their anti-gun beliefs, maybe the woman could have been armed and resolved the situation herself.

    Something to think about anyway.

I just find it funny that a government official can't even have the cops respond that fast to stop him from getting his ass beat. And you KNOW he pulled the "I'm the Mayor" card when he called 911. Still got his ass beat before the cops could get there.

Remember... when SECONDS count, the cops are only MINUTES away.
I guess that mayor is luck he didn't have a knife or a gun.

I hear all pipes have to be registered now in Milwaukee. If you want to conceal carry a pipe you must take classes and get retrained every 2 years on how to use them. If you are not 18, you can't posseses a pipe until you are 21. Next up for registration is little league baseball bats and twirling batons.

the guy that whacked him on the head was probably the mayor's cousin leroy, working to help him get re-elected.

The only thing ironic about this story, is that people will likely say that it is his anti-gun laws that kept a gun out of the criminals hands in the first place, and instead of only recovering, the politician would be dead.

It's ironic, because I doubt that is the case.

if the mayor was carrying, he could have saved the day, his hand and a trip to the hospital.
