Default To paint, or not to paint?

    That is the question.

So, toying around with doing a rattle can camo job on one of my budget builds. I've camo'd a few stocks and some other stuff but haven't gotten up the courage to lay paint on one of my AR's yet.

Curious what the peanut gallery thinks.

Based on your penchant to sell guns, eventually. I would not paint it. I picked up a gun that was painted some time back, because the price was right. NEVER AGAIN, will i buy a painted gun, it was more than a PITA removing the paint.

Once painted if you decide to sell , you'll have to find that buyer looking for that paint job.

You kind of read my mind. Potential resale is something that I always use to justify not painting something. I did paint something once and then decided to in-paint it. Took hours in a pan filled with lacquer thinner and a toothbrush. And even when I thought it was all cleaned up I would occasionally find tiny nooks and crannies where I missed a little bit. Lol.

This is just my personal opinion in the subject, but in reference to firearms, I think rattle can paint jobs is a poor excuse for not not saving the cash to do it right with Cerakote. It just looks, performs and feels cheap like you didn't care about it. I work too hard to buy this stuff only to desecrate it with spray paint. Leave it black anodize or do it right with Cerakote. Sorry if I hurt feelings, but oh well.

Didn't hurt my feelings. But cerakote is just fancy, oven baked spray paint.

Where the Krylon appeals to me is not only the initial cost but the fact that when it starts looking too bad you can just touch it up for about $10.

How much for the red dot?

Half price if you paint it.

8 AM service this morning. We prayed and the sun came out. Y'all can thank me later.

I've never seen a rattle can or stipple job that I thought looked good.
