Yeah, because holding them accountable worked so well in the last election. All the recalled seats went right back to D.

Sen John Morse's seat did go to an anti gun Democrat, Mike Merrifield. But Evie Hudak's seat is currently held by a very pro-gun Republican, Laura Woods. And the person holding Sen. Angela Giron's old seat was replaced with a Democrat, Leroy Garcia. Sen Garcia has a mixed record on guns, when he was a Representative in the Colorado House in 2013 he did vote against final passage of the high capacity magazine ban, and against CBI charging gun purchasers a tax on their purchase. Then Rep Garcia did vote for the private sale background check bill. He also voted against HB 13-1226, which would have barred CHP holders from carrying at colleges (that bill passed the House but was killed in the Senate).

So three anti gun Democrats were replaced with one anti-gun Democrat, one pro-gun Republican and one Democrat who has a mixed record on guns. The pro-gun Republican also represents the one vote majority Republicans have in the State Senate, a change from before the recalls when both chambers were majority Democrat.

And this one passed 3-2, on it's way to Senate Appropriations where it'll die. Also there is no reciprocity in this bill so a permit would still be required if going to a state that recognizes Colorado's permit.

The permitless carry bill, SB 16-017 will be heard by the Senate Appropriations Committee on Friday February 12, 2016. They will start at 8AM, and have a large pile of bills to consider. The members of the committee are Senators Kevin Grantham, Kent Lambert, LeRoy Garcia, Pat Steadman, Mary Hodge, Laura Woods and Jerry Sonnenberg. Given there is a Republican majority the bill should pass and be sent to the full Senate for consideration next week. This will be a chance for Democratic Sen. Garcia, who holds Angela Giron's old seat, to vote pro-gun. If you live in his district in the Pueblo area, you might encourage him to do the right thing on this bill.

    FIFY.

Use that terminology when contacting the Senator.

This morning SB 16-017 passed out of the Appropriations Committee, on a 4 to 3 vote, and will go to the whole Senate for a vote, probably next week. All the Republican members of the committee voted for the bill, all the Democrats voted against it. A similar bill passed out of the Senate last year, but died in the House.

It's always fun to see pro 2A legislation initiated but, in all honesty, it's just a dog and pony show more often than not.

Thing is you have to keep putting this kind of legislation up even though you know it won't pass in order to keep the issue in the forefront.

Not putting up this doomed legislation will guarantee that it won't come up when we do have the power to pass it (and won't give us the opportunity to use the gun laws as a bludgeon against the Dems).

SB 16-017 is scheduled to be considered by the whole Senate on Wednesday February 17, 2016. Please do encourage your senator to vote in favor of this bill. Assuming it passes, it will then move on to the House for consideration.
