What I am trying to communicate, and failing at, is that most parts of even So Cal are not bad enough where a rifle is needed. The best way to stay safe is situational awereness and avoiding certain areas. A handgun will solve 99% of the problems, and the 1% where a rifle is needed it will not be enough.
