What part of SoCal? Which route are you taking?

If you have a lockable Glove Box and lockable center console, you can split the gun and mags between them, as long as they are separate. No ammo in or around the locked gun.

Also, it never hurts to be a "good little citizen" and avoid any trouble. Situational Awareness is ALWAYS the most important thing, regardless.

We are heading to the Mojave Desert area. We used to go down to his Dads properties when said friend of over 20 years were stationed together in CA, ride dirt bikes/atv's, party it up and have a great time. My last trip out netted me a busted up arm, in the middle of nowhere miles from home. LA county hospital was entertaining. We are not sure on route yet. That will be weather permitting. I like 70 to 15.

Totally agree with situational awareness. We both know were to be and when to be there. The days of "accidentally" ending up on the East side of LA are over....long over. This will likely be my last trip to CA until one last family member passes in Sonoma Valley, CA. I just can't hang out in a place so restricting of my rights. Since I follow rules, I just will not go there anymore. I would like to hang out in Johnson Valley and watch KOH every year (going on right meow) in person...but that isn't going to happen.

New title for you, "Fuss Fuzz"? Besides, Milwaukee was promoting illegal activity. Had it been someone talking about selling without a BG check or acquiring mags larger than 15 rounds, several folks would have been all over it.

No fuss, just pointing out the obvious. Some new person to the sport might actually take that crap sandwich of advice. It should be squashed right away. No wonder our 2nd amendment rights get chiseled away one little chunk at a time.

If someone wants to break the law, that is on them and they should do so quietly and not on an open forum.

At the end of the day, you are traveling with someone that can legally carry, you are doing much better than the majority of folks traveling to CA.

This makes me very jealous. and sad.

I know you're new here, but I just moved to CA last May for my job and I cannot wait to move back to Free America in a few years.

I read in another thread that you moved out to CA. I lived there from 93-97. Back then it was a lot more gun friendly. I purchased my first Colt Sporter there, most of my high capacity mags, and went shooting all the time. I was always so surprised at how many had AR style rifles. I grew up in MT, and guns were everywhere and "heard" about the gun nazi's in CA. I just didn't see it back then, but glad I had them on more than one occasion.

The few times I've seen AR-15 style rifles at the range here, the owners didn't know what the hell they were talking about. It was disappointing and scary. I got talking to one guy who I thought wasn't totally brainwashed and I told him that in every other state you could own a rifle with a barrel less than 16" long with the right paperwork and his jaw just dropped... "Even one of these?" (pointing at his CA-friendly M&P15) "Yep! It's a ton of fun!" I replied. ...His response? (totally serious) "Man, that's just too dangerous." I just about slapped him. After that, he kept looking over at me like I wasn't trustworthy or something.

You solicited opinions and I just gave you an option, you can do with it what you want. I did not tell you to do anything, so do whatever you will. If you did not want opinions don't ask.

It is hard to reply to this comment, but let me try.

There are several reasons that this is just not even close to good advice.

1) I am going with a FEDERAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER. Why would he risk his 20+ year career on me breaking the law? He wouldn't, and he is actually the one who brought this up. He won't even bring his AR since it is not CA complaint.

2) Believe it or not, there are worse things than being shot dead. In my mind, being a felon, or in jail, or draining my families savings/estate does no good to them. In fact, they would be way worse off. Personally, I would not want to be in a Federal "pound it up your ass" prison if anything went down. I would rather be dead. I had the same philosophy in the sandbox, they were going to have to kill me...

3) 99% of forums like this one have law abiding citizens that follow the rules and are champions for our cause. However, there is that 1% of asshats that scream "I am a law abiding citizen, DON'T TREAD ON ME!" BS and then in the next thread post up "then deal with the rules after" or "I carry on my kids public school property, it is my right...screw them..", or (I love this one) "it is better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6..." At that point, are you really a law abiding citizen? No.

4) Having out of state plates is always a target. Now having the "Colorado" plates just screams out Bob Marley featuring Cheech & Chong is in this truck. Do we have a good chance of being pulled over? I give it a 10%, but I am not going to risk it for going to the middle of nowhere in the desert. Not a huge threat, but you never know. I have been pulled over for tinted windows, even with out of state plates in CA. It was a BS thing to pull us over, but it still got us on the side of the road with their nose all up in our business. My truck has dark, but legal tint.

Wow, things have really changed then in 18 years. Hell, I was the only one usually on the range that didn't have one for a while. Times change I guess.

Then again, so has Colorado since 97'...
