Does Ruger test fire their rifles?

Picked up my new Ruger Precision rifle. Farting around with given it a close look over in the privacy of home and couch. Noticed a few things that seemed slightly off. Wondering if this is in line with a couple rounds of test firing, or is is possible I got some kind of "return" to the distributor that ended up back at FFL.

Barrel clearly has particulates in it but gave up getting a shot with my phone.

But I noticed the bolt face seems like it has a awful amount of grime and wearing on the extractor. Would this be consistant with a handful of test fires with dirty crap?

This goes hand in hand with the AR style feed ramps, both have several spots of brass on them.

Since we talking about it. FWIW mine has the slightly canted handguards like most I'll have to fiddle with. Anyone know if the trigger pull screw is captured? Namely can I try to loosen it to far and have it fall out?

And I'd buy that if that's the consensus. Just seems like more grime than I would see from any other new things I've purchased, but for all I know Ruger actually does 10-20 rounds. I would care less in an AR or something too, but with this I'd be a little more worried since I'd like to do the whole "propper break in" thing.

They do test fire, that is normal. If you want to waste time and money reducing your barrels life, sure follow some old wives tale. Otherwise, just enjoy.

I hope they test fire them. Believe it or not, even Remington test fires 100% of their guns. It's part of the assembly process, and completely normal for some guns to have a bit more brass/fouling than others due to various quality spot-checks and re-work. Dummies are also used during assembly to bench test function, which is another source of brass contamination.

Based on my experience working in Ilion back in 2008, I wouldn't expect any manufacturer to clean the guns post-test. Especially not well enough to remove brass from various surfaces.

Day off, so from computer. Nexus 6 a bit better but some days it's tougher than others about sneaking in corrections*.


I was going by what I've seen endlessly repeated including on here in some cases about doing some kind of break in procedure. If that's been debunked at this point, I'm all for it, as cleaning every couple shots didn't sound fun.
