Thumbs up OU professor: Youths' attraction to Sanders shows education failure

    http://newsok.com/article/5475578

It's disheartening that an avowed socialist is a viable candidate for president of the United States. Socialism is a dead end. For hundreds of years, it has failed everywhere it's been adopted. The enthusiasm of our youth for the candidacy of Bernie Sanders is a symptom of our failure to educate them, not only in history, government and economics, but also basic morality.
The United States is a constitutional republic founded on political equality, not equality of income or circumstances. Our system of government was designed to secure the natural rights of its citizens. These rights include not only “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,” but the right to acquire and maintain private property. The Founding Fathers considered property rights to be sacred and paramount.
There are no property rights under socialism. Goods and services are distributed by force through political means. Everything you possess is subject to confiscation and redistribution. Industrious and productive people are punished; parasites are rewarded.
Socialism isn't so much a legitimate economic system as it is a moral failing. It will always exist because ignorant people will always want something for nothing. If we want to retain our freedom and prosperity, then we must educate our children that the purpose of government is to secure liberty, not provide free lunches.
We need more professors like this guy and fewer of the committed regressive Stalinists currently occupying offices and classrooms.

    And Comrade Lenin would disagree:

Give me four years to teach the children and the seed I have sown will never be uprooted.

This professor would never get a job at a university where these words would reach those who could actually use them. My guess is OU is probably a fairly conservative campus politically.

It's a very conservative campus. Ones of the reasons I'm looking to move to Norman this summer

There should be a law that all professors are like this guy. This information should be manditorily distributed to everyone.

IIRC, OK is the only state that voted all Red last election cycle.

Dr. David Demming was essentially forced out of the School of Geology but remains employed by OU.

The comments under the OP/ED piece by Dr. Demming did not give the impression of an overly conservative audience.

IMO, In the most conservative areas, a governement university will still be the most Progressive and leftist place around.

UW in Laramie, WY is a great example of this.
