Default Dillon purchasing dilemma. Thoughts welcome. (Long winded)

I recently had a RL 1050 stolen by UPS, uninsured and by what I can determine from their non English speaking staff, I'm SOL because my shipping box didn't have a "proof" stamp of its strength, but I degrees. Lesson learned--Insure and make them box it as well....then use Fedex.

So after much discussion with my in home financial person who fears I'm going to stroke out over this, has agreed to bless my replacement. The decision now is "What makes the most sense?" A replacement 1050 or two 650's? One in 40, one in 9mm. The Money is roughly the same.

I load miscellaneous calibers, 10mm, 380, 45 etc on a 550. From the recent theft, I still have a case feeder and completes tool head set up for 40 S&W. I could sell or utilize these items on the decision. Maybe get a discount from Dillon on a 1050 without case feeder? Or sell those 1050 parts to off set the two 650's?

Conflicting thoughts... Two 650' a) twice the lost counter top space. B) No issue quickly loading one caliber and then the other. C) If I encountered issues with one, there sets a spare. D) I REALLY like priming on the downstroke of the 1050. E) I haven't loaded on a 650 since the late 90's. F) Aren't the 650's much more prone to "gremlins?" G) I don't load as much as I once did; 40K+ a year, but have practically quit competing due to issues with last press. I'd really like to start back before the vision is even more eroded.

    Thoughts, suggestions, best shopping locations?

Thanks for thoughts. Everyone, it seems, mentions that as the only reason, but to me, the priming on the downstroke was a tendinitis cure. I was shooting almost daily, reloading most AM's, a lot of punching at the gym, and finishing concrete for a living. When I only changed the way I was priming, did the elbow issues go away. Now days I'm not finishing concrete, shoot way less, and haven't punched a bag in 5+ years. Im hoping all that will off set the priming issue.

When you get to a crimped 9 case on the 650, what is the next actions you have to do?

    Get the 1050 in 40.

Sell the toolhead w/dies and casefeeder to offset the cost of the machine. Right there is $500 or more.

When I get a crimped primer pocket on my 1050 I just keep going. To the tune of 1500-2500 rounds per hour.

Call Brian Enos to order it.

I need to load both 40 & 9mm. I've the original 40 set up tool head still. The 9 set up I bought from you is the one stolen. So you're thinking sell the extra case feeder and order a 1050 for 9mm? That the change over time would be off set by the 1050's awesomeness?

A 650 and 550 would be my choice and second on purchasing through Brian Enos.

Changing calibers on a 550 is a breeze and loading a hundred of anything is just pretty easy. Maybe a 650 and two 550s, one set up for small primer and the other for large primers just so I wouldn't have to change primer setups (not that hard).

A 650 setup for .223, one toolhead for sizing and trimming and the other for loading.

How much bench space do you have?

I mentioned in OP I have a 550 for all the light loading I do. Also a Square Deal for a buddy's revolver. Changing calibers or even Primer size is fast enough to not be an issue with the 550.

The replacement press will only be for 9 and 40, although now you go and mention 223, which I currently do on one of two single stage presses.

Another question that will helps decide, is will the RL 1050 tool heads interchange with the new Super?

I'd keep the case feeder and get it to work on the 1050. Drop by when you have time. This way you can see the 1050 processing some 223 brass, i need done. I also have some 38 spl to run on the 650.

Works just fine. I bet half or more of my toolheads are RL toolheads.

Good to know, thanks. I'm exploring a used option right now. With the money I save, I can better hone my currency printer.
