It stands for Vacation By Owner. We checked around at venues in Colorado and $5,000 for 4 hours was pretty normal. Instead, we rented a house in Las Vegas for three days that slept ten, had a 12'x60' covered patio next to a heated pool and Jacuzzi complete with a water feature for $900. It was a steal compared to anything here, and since it was within driving distance, 90% of our guests still came.

Thats what I'm finding out $5k is the low end just to have a place not including lodging, food, drinks etc at places that actually are set up for weddings. Hell some places even want to charge $50 per night to have a camp fire

My cousin got married at the place over in Morrison that over looks the city. This is where I got the $5,000 for four hours of a reception. They didn't even dust anything so there were spider webs all over the place and it seemed like the staff just stood around to yell at the kids to not climb on the rocks and trees outside.

Following for info... I'm fortunate my wife was married previously and did the big extravagant and expensive wedding already. We are married legally, but decided we'd do a low key "outdoorsy" type ceremony at some point. Two kids later, we'll get around to it eventually.

We're in a similar situation. It's a pain in the ass to make it happen when life is in full swing.

As another alternative, my cousin married his wife about a month before my wedding. They held the ceremony in their backyard and asked me to join them in marriage. Everyone they wanted to come was able to attend and they were able to afford very nice food and decor since everything else was so low budget. Plus, it sure is nice to not have to transport your gifts anywhere. As long as there is food, booze, and music, no one cares that the dance floor is your garage.
