Default Problem with new Lee 40S&W factory crimp die

The die is pushing on the bullet, pushing it further into the case, and leaving a line around the bullet where it's making contact. It appears as though the crimp ring inside the die is either the incorrect part, or was not correctly machined.

Does anyone have a Lee 40S&W FCD they could disassemble and take a picture of the small crimp ring? I'd like to see the part from someone elses die. Basically curious if the crimp ring is the wrong part, or just a defective part.

I'm waiting to hear back from Lee, hopefully they'll be able to just send me a new part.

In an enlarged version of the pic above, I can see some really rough machining marks inside, I'm thinking it wasn't finished machining.

When I removed the crimp ring from my 9mm FCD, a 9mm bullet can drop right thru it, which makes sense since it's supposed to crimp the case, not mess with the bullet.

Have you flipped the crimp ring and tried it?

Yup, that was the first thing I tried... The other end is even worse. I had that issue back with my 9mm FCD, so I learned that trick.

I know with the ring from my 9mm die, a 9mm bullet will fit completely thru the crimp ring. As shown, the 40 bullet won't even fit past the tapered part of the flat-point bullet on either side of the crimp ring.

Lee customer service is shipping out a replacement crimp sleeve to go into the die.
