    Default Gun Bill Day in the Colorado House Committee is March 7

    On March 7, the House State, Veterans and Military Affairs committee is scheduled to hear all the pro-gun bills pending in the House. They are listed below. Last year this was the committee that killed all the pro-gun bills. The same thing may happen again this year. While the make up of the committee has changed a little from last year, it is still majority Democratic. If you have the time and wish to testify please feel free to show up.

    1:30 p.m.
    Room 271 State, Veterans, and Military Affairs
    HB16-1179 Buck--Concealed Carry For Military Personnel
    HB16-1023 Everett--Deadly Force Against An Intruder At A Business
    HB16-1024 Saine and Humphrey--Repeal Ammo Magazine Prohibition
    HB16-1204 Neville P.--Allow Concealed Carry On Public School Grounds

    CCW for military would be nice, though proof of military service does satisfy state CCW training requirements.

    Deadly force would probably get veto'd by the governor. So would the magazine ban repeal. Likely CCW on public school grounds too.

    Yeah, completely useless bill. I don't see the point? But that MAY pass just so they can say they are not anti gun in this state (even though nothing will change from how it is now?) And whats the point when you can't carry, or even have a firearm in your vehicle when you have to go on base every day?

    Little hope anything else will pass.

    Side note (While I haven't read the bill): Federal law prohibits firearms on K-12 schools. Those places that license teachers are exploiting a loophole in considering them to be armed security guards. That loophole doesn't work for the general public... so a CO bill is unlikely to have any effect there even if it passed.
    Another case of Federal overreach.

    The point is to make dems defeat pro gun bills every chance we can. This puts them on record, keeps the issue alive and who knows, we might just slip one by.

    If Republicans just wait until they're in charge to push these bills they reduce the chance that they'll ever be in charge because they'll be seen as "do nothings" by the people.

    Nothing negative about it. Every time dick-in-pooper vetoes pro gun legislation it pisses people off a little more (both at him and his party).

    No Federal law does not prohibit firearms at K through 12 schools. Why would you say something that is so obviously false, and imply that the bill is stupid or a ploy? If the bill were enacted, however slim that might be, people with a CCW type permit could carry at schools, and not violate any laws, state or Federal. Until the shall issue law was enacted in 2003, the Colorado concealed carry permit worked at k-12 schools. The K-12 school limitation in current law was added mostly because then Gov Bill Owens insisted on it as a condition of his support of the shall issue bill.

    18 USC 922(q) says, in relevant part: (2)(A) It shall be unlawful for any individual knowingly to possess a firearm that has moved in or that otherwise affects interstate or foreign commerce at a place that the individual knows, or has reasonable cause to believe, is a school zone.

    (B) Subparagraph (A) does not apply to the possession of a firearm— (i) on private property not part of school grounds;

    (ii)if the individual possessing the firearm is licensed to do so by the State in which the school zone is located or a political subdivision of the State, and the law of the State or political subdivision requires that, before an individual obtains such a license, the law enforcement authorities of the State or political subdivision verify that the individual is qualified under law to receive the license;

    (iii) that is— (I)not loaded; and

    (II)in a locked container, or a locked firearms rack that is on a motor vehicle;

    (iv) by an individual for use in a program approved by a school in the school zone;

    (v) by an individual in accordance with a contract entered into between a school in the school zone and the individual or an employer of the individual;

    (vi) by a law enforcement officer acting in his or her official capacity; or

    (vii) that is unloaded and is possessed by an individual while traversing school premises for the purpose of gaining access to public or private lands open to hunting, if the entry on school premises is authorized by school authorities.

    As you can see, subsection (ii) allows state law to allow people with a CCW to possess firearms on school grounds, and not violate 18 USC 922(q).

    Tag for results. I'm not sure if a feed of these will be streaming but I don't think I can bear to watch.

    The stress caused by the 2013 bullshit probably took a year off my life.
