Ammo is a large part of the solution. If the gun is setup solid first, then loads developed for it, you should have no problem hitting 600 consistently. I shoot my 20" rem700 out way past that with the only accuracy issue is my wind calls so it's not the barrel length. If I did have a longer barrel then my MV could be developed faster to help in drop and reduce the deflection, just a small amount, from wind.

BTW: Dave if you're free today we can go shoot my 20" Rem out to 700+ to see that it's not a problem.
Thanks for the offer, but I had already left to spend the day with friends. Though we did spend a couple of hours shooting pistols, where I learned that I'm still not a Glock fan, the grip doesn't feel right to me.

The main reason I had been looking at the longer barrel is my inexperience in long distance shots. I figured it would help compensate for user error, plus I don't yet have a reloading setup to fine tune loads. So it's factory match loads, at least for a while.
