    Default Changing a buffer tube.

OK folks, my turn for :
"The Dumb Question of the Week".

I am going to remove a Commercial Buffer tube & install a Mil Spec Buffer tube, will this damage the threads in the lower receiver ?

Mil Spec tube diameter at the threads = 1.185"

Commercial tube diameter at the threads = 1.170"

That is a 15/1000 th. difference, with the Mil Spec being the larger, will this damage the receiver threads, or get stuck part of the way on ?

I would rather ask first than have one of those " You Live, and You Learn" life experiences.

Lower is a lower. They're not built to specifically accommodate one or the other tube types.

Commercial tubes have flattened threads, that compensate for the larger diameter.

That said, I've only ever installed MIL SPEC tubes in my lowers. Every damn one of them fit.

Yep, I don't want one odd ball in the gang. I have a tendency to swap stocks around willy nilly, as the mood fits.

tubes are tubes.... STOCKS are NOT!!!!!! make sure you mount accordingly. I've see people hammer on the wrong stock because they didn't realize what tube they had, or that there was a difference.
