Default House A/C Evaporator Coil cleaning

Has anyone cleaned their own coils and what did you use? Did some quick research after my maintenance check up and they wanted $900 to clean the blower fan and coils. Service tech said they’d brush off the dust and use a cleaning spray on the coils. Thanks.

The outside unit? We hit ours up with diluted Simple Green from a garden sprayer, let it soak in, and then rinse with the water hose.

The unit in the attic the blower fan ain't hard to get to... take it out and brush it off with paint brushes and then compressed air. The coils in that unit..I have nothing for you other than change air filters regularly

If you have been running the system WITHOUT a filter then you probably need to clean the evap coil and blower wheel.

If you've always had a filter in there regardless of it being dirty then you probably don't need to clean the evap coil and blower wheel.

Take a picture of your blower wheel vains and I post it up. I can usually tell if your coil is plugged up based on the vains of the blower.
