    Default Baffle Strike Scare

Thought I had a baffle strike today on my Ti-Rant 9. Shot right off the muzzle.

After the "Oh shit" passed and I could inspect it, turns out it was not a strike. It looks like the ASAP Assembly cracked where it threads onto the can, and that caused the threads to let go and off came the can. Seems like the assembly is really thin aluminum, and after machining, it was even thinner.

Going to call Remington/AAC on Monday. Should be warranty work, since the piece failed.

Side note. It was 115gr Federal 9mm bulk. No +p and no reloads have ever gone through the can.

Wow! Bet that woke you up quick. I shot a rifle can 20 yards down range once, scared the sh$% out of me! Let us know how your experience goes, been a little curious since Remington has become AAC. Hope it all turns out well, don't have any reason to think it won't.

I just got a can back from AAC for latch mechanism repair and it was painless.

I got my Ti-Rant 9 back a couple of weeks ago for just about the same issue. Mine only had less than 50 rounds through it and had come off twice. Mine came off at the same place yours did, but didn't crack anything. I took it to 2 different well known smiths here on the board and they both agreed that from the factory there was not enough thread engagement.

I sent it in, and after a week or so it returned with no note or anything indicating what they had done so I called them. They said that joint isn't supposed to come loose, so they put it on correctly and tight. I don't have a ton of confidence in what I was told, which is part of the reason I haven't taken it out since I got it back.

Glad I went with silencerco. I hope everything works out for you and it's an easy fix that is a permanent repair not something that happens every year.

This is not good to hear. Though I did read an article in My NRA magazine that says Remington knows they have a black eye and need to turn things around. ACC was awesome 10 or 12 years ago. Nice to know others are plenty happy to pick up the slack. Is the version that is failing built different than the one that are staying together?

I have a ticket open with AAC and received an email yesterday with all the info to print a label and set up a pickup with UPS.
    Shipping the whole thing back.

I'll update as I get more info

Swing by Bowers when it comes back and let us know how it went. We like to keep tabs on how manufacturers are treating warranty work and how often they need it. We've heard of the turmoil at AAC ever since Remington took the reigns, AAC and the other companies they now control. We've been leery of them all ever since. But... things change.
Mom's comin' 'round to put it back the way it ought to be.
