Default Pity the poor future swabbie who has to serve on the USS Carl M. Levin

    http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/...onor-recipien/

or the USS Cesar Chavez or USS

Navy Secretary Ray Mabus, who has named several ships after Democrats and liberal activists not connected to the military, was in Detroit on Monday to announce that an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer will be named the USS Carl M. Levin. The Michigan Democrat served 31 years in the Senate and chaired the Senate Armed Services Committee from 2007 to 2015.
The move has rankled some Republicans. They note privately the long list of war heroes yet to be so honored and the Navy’s own tradition of naming destroyers after deceased Medal of Honor recipients and other combat heroes, as well as admirals and generals who played significant roles in naval warfare.
An examination by The Washington Times of the 71 Arleigh Burke monikers shows Mr. Levin is the only one — except Winston Churchill — who does not meet the Navy guideline for destroyers. Most Arleigh Burke honorees are naval war heroes; a significant number earned the Medal of Honor. There are several Navy secretaries.
Since the start of the Obama administration, Mr. Mabus has named combat logistics supply ships after civil rights leader Medgar Evers and leftist farmworker Cesar Chavez.
In January Mr. Mabus again broke with past tradition. He named a fleet replenishment oiler, TAO-205, after civil rights icon Rep. John Lewis, George Democrat. Mr. Lewis voted for removing all U.S. troops from Iraq in 2007 and from Afghanistan in 2011.
Navy guidelines had said such ships are named for rivers or people instrumental to maritime and aviation design and production.
But Mr. Mabus changed the convention last year, saying the 17 oilers will be named after civil and human rights activists.
Mabus needs to be fired. I blame McConnell for even agreeing to confirm this political hack.

I'm sure civil leaders want war machines named after them in honor of their good deeds. /s

Seriously, you DON'T name war ships after congressmen and senators. You name them after military men and women who contributed to the war efforts of this country.

    Eh, it could be worse:

    http://www.duffelblog.com/2012/06/vi...ss-jane-fonda/

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Both the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars issued a joint statement today condemning the U.S. Navy over the launch of its newest warship, the USS Jane Fonda.
“Without getting into Jane Fonda’s activities during the Vietnam War, we feel that it is highly inappropriate to name a warship after an actress with no ties to the military,” said James Mitchell, a spokesman for both groups.
The ship’s name, which had been kept under wraps until right before the launch, was revealed yesterday at a star-studded event presided over by Ms. Fonda.
Ms. Fonda made a statement prior to the launch, saying, “I dedicate this ship to the brave men who fought and died in Vietnam, especially those in the 66th Viet Cong Regiment.”

Old McConnell is the R version of harry reid. A fukin Obama rubber stamp tool. This House & senate has rubber stamped almost every Obama proposal to date. Why would anyone think they would stand up to Navy Secretary Ray Mabus,if the don't stand up to O?

I don't mind them naming after congressmen and senators who contributed significantly like Vinson. I DO mind them naming a ship after someone who has done everything he could to tear down the country and weaken its national defense or someone who has NO connection to the military mission like political activists.

Don't forget the USS Gabby Giffords. Or taking 'man' out of job titles because it isn't gender neutral. Or gender neutral uniforms. Or disregarding the USMC study on women in combat roles. Ray Maybus is in the top 3 worst things Obama has done.
