Do any of these have a loop recorder? I would hate having to turn it on, hit record, hit stop, or anything like that. It would be nice if they just recorded in 24hr loops and just came on when your car started, and stopped when you turned off the ignition. Is there one like that?

I live in Salt Lake now, and by far these guys are the worst drivers I've ever seen, and I've driven everywhere including L.A., Denver (of course), Miami, and NYC... These guys are terrible here. I've been wanting to get a dash cam ever since I figured out that all the bad driving wasn't a fluke, it's the norm...

The Blueskysea G1W loop records. I believe most of the cameras that are marketed as dash cameras loop record. I have a couple of micro SD cards that I rotate when I think there is something I might want to save. I pull the card and replace with another card. I then put the card I took out into my laptop and review the card for what I want to save.

The worst part of some of my saved recordings is the radio or conversations on the card. I've heard myself singing along with the radio and it is not something I want to save or share.

They're protected by their temple garments.

Saw some really stupid driving there. Big wreck with the Interstate coming to a halt. Everyone was driving at a high rate of speed prior to that. Watched a driver pull out right in front of a highway patrolman who was trying to get to the wreck on the shoulder...it was a beaut of a maneuver.

The one I have loop records and you press a button to protect the current file. The current file will also auto protect if the unit senses a shock.

Most dash cams loop record. Pretty sure that's what makes them a dash cam rather than a camera on the dash.

So I owe everyone an update on my latest dash cam purchase. I got my wife the standard, front facing KDlinks dash cam shortly after starting this thread and she's been very happy with it. I recently purchased this one for myself: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I'm not sure which features anyone cares about, so rather than trying to guess which will be important to you, just ask any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. As this is a dual camera option, one thing to keep in mind is that it takes up space at twice the rate. It came with a 16gb micro SD card. I drove 286 miles today (Thornton->Firestone->Thornton->Erie->Cheyenne->Thornton), and the oldest footage of the day is the return trip from Cheyenne, right near the Colorado boarder. So a larger SD card will be necessary to record a whole day of driving. However, as Cstone pointed out earlier in the thread, most of what you record is meaningless and having a second card to switch out would be useful. In my case, I can hit a little button on the camera and it will "lock" the current loop (I have mine set to 3 min) so it doesn't get recorded over. Below is a video of the rear facing camera from Monday. Scoot up to 2 minutes and you can see me not paying attention. This was something I had saved and was still accessible today.

Here is a picture of what the camera looks like in the car. I have it set so that the preview screen goes away after 30 seconds and it just looks like a regular rear-view mirror (with wires sticking out of it).

Check it out and ask some questions and I'll be back later to refine the review.

I clobbered a bird on the way to work the other day. I should review dashcam footage and see if it caught it. Hopefully it did, and also got the audio of me saying, "Did I just kill a bird?"

I live in and out of pool cars. Is the model you bought semi-permanent, or amenable to being swapped from car to car? How easy is it to turn the internal voice recording feature off? I would not want to have to disclaim it every time I have a passenger in a two party consent state, or inadvertently make an unauthorized recording of privileged conversation when taking a work call in my vehicle. However, I do see a lot of advantage in having a video record of my driving in the company vehicle.
Math is tough. Let's go shopping!
