Turning off the mic is a few clicks on the menu setting, as are all other options. I never want to install again, so definitely not good for moving from car to car. It's not difficult, as it's just a matter of running the wires and tucking them into the headliner. This camera has a feature where when you go into reverse, it switches to the rest camera only, and overlays those green/yellow/red lines on the screen to aid parking. The parking lines do not move like in some vehicles with a factory back -up cam. In order for the camera to know when you're in reverse, you must connect the provided lead to the power wire of the reverse bulb.

I had to take off a few panels in order to hide the rear cam wire, in addition to removing the rear taillight, cutting the power wire, and splicing it back together with the lead. The front wire was about 6 inches too short to simply tuck into the liner and around the dash, so that required me to use a piece a weed whacker line to fish the wire behind the dash, as I couldn't find my real fish tape.

Install took probably two hours as I wanted it to look nice and as inconspicuous as possible. All that said, a simple forward facing camera with a suction cup mount would be as easy to move as a windshield mounted GPS, as long a you didn't care about hiding the wire. Rear camera is held on with 3M tape so it can be mounted where ever you like. Once mounted, it rotates so it can be adjusted, even to see the interior of you wanted. Rear camera options to mirror, flip, or both (in case you mounted it upside down on accident) are only a few menu clicks away.

Oh, so the rear camera is a separate unit? I was thinking it was part of the mirror unit, two cameras on the thing, wondered how that worked. Don't know that I'd need a rear camera in my pickup anyway, but I like my backup cam. Would like a dash camera, but don't really want to cover up the OnStar controls on my mirror.

That’s funny, the cop was smart enough to not try to get anywhere fast using the left lane with all the slow cars.

Stu, it looks like you have a bigger area to cover than I do. My typical day looks more like: Aurora>Mile High Stadium>Louisville>Cherry Hills>Parker>Denver>Chatfield>Mile High>Brighton>Aurora. We may be doing a project in Windsor coming up.

I like your camera, but I still change vehicles a lot, car to truck to car. I think I’m going to get a little more transferable camera. I tried one a friend had but it worked intermittent so looks like a new one for me.

I took a few more pictures to give everyone an idea of the totality of this thing.

Have to leave extra wires so the hatch can still open. Not sure if I'll try to secure the wires out of the way or not.

Can't open the gate all the way with the ladder on the roof.

Rear camera rotates. I have it pointed pretty far down because I'm more interested in using it as a back-up camera than for viewing out the back. As you can see from the video I posted above, even pointed way down, it still picks up plenty of what's going on behind.

A note about the video above. I had the camera set so the image was not mirrored as reviewing video from the rear camera is not disorienting. However, when actually looking in the preview screen with the rear camera not mirrored IS disorienting. I switched it back as the rear camera is more usable if everything appears reversed as if I'm looking into a mirror. I figure if I ever need to review anything, I'll just flip the video in whatever media player.

Big E, you're going to a lot more areas than my average day. When I have 6+ stops they are usually pretty close together. Not every day was like yesterday, but April was pretty bad because I went to Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, and Iowa, twice and I ended up driving over 5,600 miles in April alone.

Guy went around traffic to make the light in the turn lane. He didn't make it. Nothing really crazy caught on dash cam yet. My work requires me to listen to music very loudly, so the sound quality is poor in the video.

Wish I had a dash cam the other day. An older Subaru destroyed itself on the ass end of an old F150.
Radiator steaming, oil leaking, hood bent up halfway into the driver's view. Barely bent the truck bumper.

The truck hauled ass. The Subaru guy (at fault) was trying to chase him down.
